Ortho Keratology
Leunig & Farmer Eyecare provides Ortho Keratology (Ortho K) or corneal reshaping therapy.
Ortho K involves the flattening of the curvature of the cornea, the front window of the eye, with contact lenses for myopic, or short sighed patients.
This reduces the patient’s dependency on optical aids, enhances unaided clarity of sight and controls "myopic creep", the gradual progression of myopia.
Individuals requiring improved, unaided visual acuity to qualify for specific careers such as flying, law enforcement and fire fighting can benefit from Ortho K. For some children and young adults with progressive myopia, Ortho K can arrest and in some cases ultimately reverse their myopia. Ortho K can also benefit those individuals simply wanting to be less dependent on external devices for normal, functional vision.
Leunig & Farmer Eyecare partner Ross McDowell specialises in this particular area of optometry. If you are interested in Ortho K, contact your local Leunig & Farmer Eyecare practice to arrange an appointment with Ross, who will assess your suitability for Ortho K.
