Behavioural Optometry

Our Behavioural Optometry Services

Optometry is another branch of eye clinic that examines vision in line with its demands. Visual demands include exercises such as writing, reading, and watching a thing on the screen. The branch explains that what you interpret about your vision is more than what you see and how clear you see it. Hence, it includes the following measurements.

  • Measurement of eye coordination and fixation
  • Measurement of distance focus
  • Examination and treatment of Amblyopia or strabismus
  • Examination and treatment of a child’s visual perception skills
  • Examination and treatment of neurological conditions associated with visual impairment. Etc.

In essence, they are more concerned with visual improvements and developments.

We established this unit to further our goals to help individuals overcome visual problems through prevention campaigns and provide adequate vision treatment.

We advise our patients to undergo frequent eye examinations to detect any problem and use their glasses for corrective purposes. Also, we offer eye therapy, also known as vision therapy, to improve the conditioning of the eye and processing development.

For slight concussion or migraine, we recommend the use of tinted glasses for special examination.

Signs of Visual Impairment in Children

  • Abnormal head movements such as tilting during reading or writing
  • Covering one eye to see correctly during reading or writing
  • Omitting words while reading or writing
  • Watery eyes or Itchy eyes
  • Deterioration in the ability to read or write during classes
  • Slow reading
  • Poor Concentrations

What Do We Do?

Vision Therapy

It is a form of therapy that is based on individual eye demands. It usually involves eye training and use of metronomes, computerised devices, balance boards, etc., and thus based on visual exercises.

Visual therapy is usually recommended after proper diagnosis and, therefore, cannot be self-prescribed. It has various types, such as vergence therapy, or may be used to treat spatial struggles.

The Underachieving Child-Therapies

We recommend this therapy for children who have dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, and dyspraxia.

Often, lenses are the most recommended form of treatment for eye problems and are even advised to people without defects.

This treatment is for visual defects caused by trauma or stroke.

Recommended Eye Exercises

The basis of vision therapy is eye training that involves exercises. These exercises may be divided into strabismic and non-strabismic outcomes and include

  • Use of Convex and Concave lenses
  • Anti-suppression exercises
  • Use of Stereogram cards
  • Cawthorne Cooksey Exercises
  • Beams
  • Rotational trainers
  • Sequencers etc

Problem of Efficiency

Like what we say to our patients, different individuals with their individual needs and challenges require personal examination and treatment. Also, the organisation of each person’s body part makes the working methods for individuals different. According to some researchers, vision therapy is a fruitless exercise.

Leunig & Farmer Eyecare disagrees with such assertion. We believe different methods work for other persons and conditions. Hence, while it may not be the most effective treatment, it does prove efficacy with some people.
